he Coptic Grave: A Story of Faith, Tradition, and Coexistence
For over 15 years, I have been on a journey—one that began in the winter of 2010 with a visit to my family’s cemetery in the small village of Meet Swaid, Egypt. A village with just one street, one mosque, one school, and one cemetery.
In that cemetery, a Coptic Christian man, Kyriakos, buried among Muslims. This was not the norm. In life, Muslims and Christians lived side by side, but in death, they are separated. Yet here, in the heart of my family’s burial ground, lay a man whose presence defied tradition.
This film is the story of Kyriakos, the Coptic man who lived in my village and was buried in my family cemetery.
Through this journey, I seek to uncover the truth behind his burial, explore the deep-rooted customs of my village, and ask: Can a simple grave challenge centuries of tradition?
